breast density

A term used to describe the amount of dense tissue compared to the amount of fatty tissue in the breast on a mammogram.  Dense breast tissue has more fibrous and glandular tissue than fat.  There are different levels of breast density, ranging from little to no dense tissue to very dense tissue.  The more density, the harder it may be to find tumors or other changes on a mammogram.
